About 'oakwood university alabama'|3/28: Alabama wants in on the race war…

For               the               winners               of               The               Sing-Off's               second               season               on               air,               Los               Angeles               was               a               long               road               from               Alabama.

How               did               they               make               it               there,               and               what               do               we               know               about               this               "boys               only,"               soulful               a               cappella               group?

Church               Group?

Well,               Sorta               .

.

.
As               Nick               Lachey               described               each               of               the               three               remaining               groups               on               The               Sing               Off,               he               branded               Committed               as               perhaps               a               bit               inexperienced               prior               to               the               show.

He               said               to               the               group:
"The               six               of               you               faced               a               challenge               right               out               of               the               gate.

As               church               singers,               you'd               never               taken               on               a               pop               song               until               you               hit               The               Sing-Off               stage,               but,               thanks               to               your               devotion               and               hard               work,               your               soulful               harmonies               shined               a               miraculous               light               on               the               music."
After               the               group's               performance               on               the               show               of               "Hold               my               Hand,"               judge               Nicole               Scherzinger,               through               tears,               said               to               the               group,               "You               have               a               very               specific               message,               one               that               is               of               a               deep               love               and               light,               and               I               think               that               the               world               is               craving               that               right               now."
Group               member               Geston               Pierre               said               to               People,               "We               really               want               to               have               [an               album]               more               on               the               inspirational               side.

That's               what               we've               been               putting               out               .

.

.

People               want               to               see               more               inspirational               music,               so               hopefully               that's               what               we               can               give               them."
It               was               no               surprise               when               they               commented               in               their               interview               after               the               show,               "We               all               owe               this               to               God,"               after               being               awarded               with               a               Sony               contract               and               $100,000               grand               prize.
The               group               hails               from               Huntsville,               Alabama.

It's               interesting               to               note               that               Committed               has               six               members,               just               like               last               year's               winning               group               Nota.

Another               fun               trivia               fact               is               that               a               cappella,               by               definition,               means               "in               the               manner               of               a               chapel,"               indicating               its               roots               in               the               church               --               roots               that               Committed               and               the               genre               a               cappella               share.
What               many               fans               may               not               realize,               however,               is               that               while               the               singers               are               known               as               a               "church               group,"               according               to               The               Huntsville               Times,               the               six               guys               met               at               Oakwood               University.

Their               ties               to               the               school               were               also               the               reason               they               were               discovered               in               the               first               place.

It               was               another               a               cappella               group               from               Oakwood               called               Take               6               that               recommended               Committed               to               NBC               originally.
Committed               formed               in               2003,               but               according               to               an               earlier               article               by               the               The               Huntsville               Times,               Pierre               is               the               only               original               member               still               in               the               group.

Perhaps               they               should               indeed               take               judge               Shawn               Stockman's               advice,               that               they               shared               in               their               final               interview,               to               "Stay               true               to               yourselves,               stay               together,               stay               grounded,               stay               humble."
